“Faith Without Works Is Dead”

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

James tells it like it is when he states that “faith without works is dead.”  Just as we’ve each had gym memberships that we didn’t utilize consistently, perhaps we struggle even more with a faith that doesn’t get exercised in the day to day.

Hope to see you tonight at 7:30!

Shut up and Eat!

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

A daily item on the lunch menu at Pane’ Rustica on McDill is called the, “Shut up and Eat!” The only description of the mystery dish reads, “Trust us, it’s good.” Only the chef knows what it is. But he claims it will be good.

I ordered the “Shut up and eat!” last time I was there. Not knowing what I was going to be served, I sat my growling stomach down at a table, and waited. From out of the kitchen comes a plate of pecan-encrusted salmon with rice and greens. It was awesomely tasty!

In James chapter one there is a direct correlation with “shutting up” and blessings. It happens when we grow beyond being hearers of the Word and begin acting on God’s truth. It’s like James is saying, “Shut up and DO! And by the way, trust me, you will be blessed.”

Stick around after the service for our usual fare of great food. Shutting up is optional.

See you tonight at 7:30.
