Jesus Who?–I am the Door

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

You will enter and exit through a variety of doors today.

The darkened door to your apartment.

A bi-fold closet door.

A car door.

A labeled bathroom door.

A door leading to a stall inside that bathroom.

The door to your office.

The dreaded door to your boss’ office.

The door to your coworker/friend’s office where you go to complain after exiting your boss’ door.

And hopefully one of the glass, double doors to 97West.

Doors are opportunities.  Some opportunities we take advantage of, while others we pass up.  Some of the doors are wide open and we can see what’s on the other side of the threshold.  But sometimes doors are closed and don’t have a peephole, so we aren’t sure what possibilities – or disasters – lie in wait.

In John 10 Jesus claims to be the Door.  What’s on the other side of that door?

See you tonight.  The address over our door on Davis Islands is 97 W. Biscayne.

Blurb-Mac

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I’m not smart enough for a PC.  They don’t make sense to me.  I suppose it started several years ago when someone told me that the way to shut down my computer was to click on the “start” icon.  I’m sorta glad that I’m not that kind of smart.

I will admit to my shallowness: I like Mac’s because they look chic.  The white exterior with the half-eaten apple looks cooler at Starbucks than, say, a monochromatic Acer.  Next time you are at a coffee shop look for me – I will be the guy behind the Dell laptop.  Yes, I said “Dell.”  Here at work they gave me a PC.  The only thing I like more than a $2,000 Apple is a free Dell.

So would Jesus say He is a Mac or a PC?  He actually told us in John 6, “I am the Bread of Life.”  Honestly it has nothing to do with Mac’s or PC’s, but I couldn’t think of anything else for this blurb.

See you tonight at 7:30 when we “start.”  In the Mac world “start” only means “start.”  I know how that can confuse some of you PC types.

Jesus Who?– Truth

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

One of my favorite scenes in the movie Elf is where Buddy the Elf meets the fake department store Santa. This usurper continues to claim that he is the real Santa in the face of Buddy’s protests that he doesn’t smell like Santa. Finally, in frustration and judgment, Buddy utters this damning verdict:

“You sit on a throne of lies!”

Over the next few weeks we’re going to look at the claims of Jesus, who he said he was, and tonight we’re examining his claim to be the truth. Will it hold up? And what is truth anyways? Absolute? Conditional? Variable?

Join us tonight as we delve into this dramatic claim of Jesus, that he not only teaches the truth, but that he IS the truth.

See you at 7.30pm,

Glyn
